My snow day craft project is finally done, and the snow is melting. Which is convenient, because I needed somewhere to put the canvas while I waited for the acrylic sealer to dry/air out, and I certainly couldn’t use a snow-covered patio!
The finished project:
My inspiration was this (much better) two canvas piece from Kelly Hicks Design. For some reason, my paint always bleeds underneath the painter’s tape. In this project, it’s probably because I was supposed to use spray paint, and I used regular acrylic paint.
My art supplies:
1) Paint whole canvas in a bunch of different colors (I used mainly blues and greens with a bit of raspberry and purple for accent colors.)
Here are some progress shots:
2) Cut strips of painter’s tape of the same size (This part is boring. Very boring.)
3) Tape them onto the canvas in a herringbone pattern leaving some out (I am apparently not very good with patterns, because I had to do the whole canvas herringbone and then peel a few off at the end, or I lost track of the pattern.)
4) Spray paint whole canvas in white. (You can try using acrylic paint like I did, but I’m not sure I’d recommend it.)
5) Finish painting edges of canvas
I hung it up in the kitchen, but I’m not sure I love it. I like the idea of it, but the messiness of where the paint bled under the tape, and some cracks that happened when I peeled the tape off are bugging me. I like having something above the sink, though, so I may make something else. Stay tuned!
I recently bought a slow cooker and am now obsessed with finding good slow cooker recipes. I saw this on Pinterest and thought it would be yummy. Like apple crisp, but oatmeal style. Here’s the picture that lured me in:
This is the recipe that was in the pin caption. The pin of course didn’t link to the original recipe post, just a random tumbler home page, so I have no reference link for you (I hate you pinners that do that!).
Throw 2 sliced apples, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon in the bottom of the crock pot. Pour 2 cups of oatmeal and 4 cups of water on top. Do NOT stir. Cook overnight for 8 – 9 hours on low. Yummy breakfast!
LIES! LIES! I’m talking to you, word “yummy breakfast!”
First off, please note that the recipe doesn’t ask you to peel the apples. If you make this recipe, I beseech you, peel the poor apples! Who wants apple skins in their oatmeal? Also, I felt like it was a little bland, needed more spices maybe?
I don’t really know where I went wrong, but I was so excited about this breakfast, and it did not live up to my expectations. Let me know if you try it and it’s better. Maybe I need to try it with a different kind of apple?
Another installment of things I’ve been loving on Pinterest for the past week…This week’s theme – Inspirational Quotes. Click on a photo for the original source.
I love traveling, but I can always think of a million reasons to stop myself from going. (I have to work, I have no money, who will watch my cat, etc.) I think it’s important to see different places, meet different people, and have new experiences. Wish I could go more places… I did just book a MegaBus (it’s like taking a Greyhound – I’m so cheap ha) ticket to Chicago to see some friends!
Continuing with the travel theme…I know a few people I think this sign would be perfect for…
If I had any type of nautical theme going with my decor…this print would already be hanging on my wall:
Lastly, if this poster design were available to buy as a print, it would definitely be on my wall. I love the quote, I love the design, I want it. Grrr.
Here’s to strange adventures!
I was going to merge the two words in the title into a cute pun like “PINspiration” or something, but then it just reminded me too much of “perspiration” which is not cute or fun at all. So I went the boring route. Sorry, guys.
Anyway, here’s what I’ve been loving on Pinterest this past week.
Isn’t this stair step end table fabulous? It would take a certain decor style to pull off, but I like it!
This blog post about printing oversized prints at Staples for surprisingly cheap.
They’re called engineering prints and they only come in black and white, but I think it could be fun. I considered getting one for above my couch, but I’ve found a new art project idea for that. More to come later 🙂
